🎯 Project Overview

Project Title: Roses and Regrets – Album Cover Poste.r Design

Client: Fictional band nostalchicks

Genre: Indie / Alternative / Heartbreak Scope: Conceptual design, illustration, and layout for an album poster

The Everyday Poster Series is a fun and expressive collection of posters inspired by the wonderfully chaotic lives of cat owners. Each design captures a universal, “been there” moment from the feline world whether it’s using your cat as a shield for ghost at night, using your cat to get out of plans or killing an insect.

💡Ideation & Concept

🧠 Core Idea:

This poster series is all about the real perks of having a cat not the cute, fluffy Instagram kind…
We're talking about the funny, weird, lowkey heroic things cats do in everyday life. Each poster shows a totally relatable (and slightly dramatic) moment every cat owner has been through but in a comic style, with pastel gradients and punchy type

.

💡 Theme Inspiration:

The theme is inspired by the funny, everyday moments that every cat owner secretly turns into a dramatic story. Whether it’s using your cat as an excuse, a bug assassin, or a brave ghost shield at night these posters capture those chaotic-but-relatable experiences in a playful, comic-style way. The pastel colors and comic layout add a soft, humorous twist to the daily adventures of living with a cat.

🧩 Visual Language

The posters use a soft yet playful visual style to match the humor and charm of cat-owner life.

  • Color Palette: Pastel gradients — soft pinks, purples, and blues — give a dreamy, cozy vibe that contrasts the silly drama unfolding in each scene.
  • Style: Comic strip layout with panel divisions, expressive character poses, and exaggerated reactions to tell a mini story at a glance.
  • Typography: Bold, comic-inspired type with handwritten touches — perfect for capturing dramatic “sound effects” and inner monologue vibes.
  • Illustration Style: Simple, flat-style drawings with thick outlines and minimal detailing, keeping the focus on expressions and actions.

Adelle Sans Devanagari (Headings):
A thin, clean, and modern font used for titles and key labels.Balances out the casual feel of Comic Sans with a bit of structure and elegance.Helps create visual hierarchy and keeps the overall layout looking polished.

Text Emphasis through Scaling:
Words like “scared”, “coward”, and “plans” are scaled up to grab attention. This adds drama and context — the viewer instantly understands the focus of the poster at a glance.

Color & Contrast:
Text is in dark blue to ensure strong contrast against the pastel gradient backgrounds.Maintains excellent readability while still feeling soft and cohesive with the overall color palette.

I went with a comic-style layout for my poster because comics are a fun and easy way to tell a story. Since my poster breaks down different steps, I thought this style would be perfect to guide the viewer through each part in a clear, engaging way. Plus, the comic vibe adds some excitement, making the message more memorable and enjoyable!

Background

pastel background image

I chose a soft pastel gradient background instead of the usual white seen in comic books to add more visual appeal. Pastel colors are known for their calm and soothing vibe, making them perfect for creating a relaxed and comfortable look. The soft gradient not only looks great but also helps reduce eye strain, making the text easier to read while still keeping the overall design light and inviting.

Key Learning

Consistency is Key
: Keep design elements like color palette, typography, and layout consistent across the series to create a cohesive look.

Tell a Story: Each poster should contribute to the overall narrative, whether it's through visuals, steps, or a theme. Make sure they work together to communicate the message clearly.

Hierarchy Matters: Ensure the most important information stands out. Use size, color, and positioning to guide the viewer's eye through the poster.

Keep It Simple: Don’t overcrowd the design. Focus on clarity and simplicity, ensuring the message is easy to grasp at a glance.

Visual Appeal: Use color, imagery, and typography to capture attention and make the posters visually interesting.

Target Audience: Consider who will be viewing the posters. Make design choices that resonate with them and keep the tone appropriate for the audience.
